Kaputaş Beach Guide: The Turquoise Pearl of the Turkish Riviera

Home Destinations Kaputaş Beach Guide: The Turquoise Pearl of the Turkish Riviera

Hidden among the steep cliffs of the Mediterranean, Kaputaş Beach, which never drops from the lists of the world’s best beaches with its stunning turquoise color, is a natural wonder every traveler to the region must see. Situated at the mouth of a canyon, the meeting of underground spring waters with the sea gives it that famous cyan hue and refreshing coolness.

So, how do you get to Kaputaş Beach, is there an entrance fee, and what is the sea like? Here is everything you need to know for a flawless Kaputaş experience.

Where is Kaputaş Beach and How to Get There?

Kaputaş Beach is located within the borders of the Kaş district in Antalya, right on the coastal road connecting Kaş and Kalkan.

  • Transportation from Kalkan: The beach is only 7 kilometers away from the center of Kalkan. You can reach this magnificent bay in about 10-15 minutes by car.

  • Transportation from Kaş: It is approximately 20 kilometers from the center of Kaş. You can reach it in about 25-30 minutes via the winding but incredibly scenic coastal road.

If you don’t have a personal vehicle, you can easily reach the beach using the minibuses (dolmuş) that depart from both the Kaş and Kalkan bus stations throughout the summer season.

Those Famous Steps: 187 Stairs

One of the defining features of Kaputaş is the long flight of stairs descending from the highway to the beach. After parking your car or getting off the minibus, you must walk down exactly 187 steps. Don’t forget to take plenty of photos on your way down, and take your time to enjoy the spectacular view on your way back up.

What is the Sea and Shore of Kaputaş Beach Like?

  • Sand or Pebble? The shore is not entirely made of fine sand; it is a beautiful mix of sand and small golden pebbles. Thanks to this texture, the seawater doesn’t get murky and maintains its crystal-clear turquoise clarity.

  • Water Temperature: Because the underground waters flowing through the canyon mix directly into the sea, the water at Kaputaş is cooler than the Mediterranean average. It provides an incredibly refreshing escape, especially on scorching summer days.

  • Depth: The sea can deepen quite suddenly just a few steps from the shore. Therefore, non-swimmers and families with children should be cautious.

Kaputaş Beach Entrance Fee and Facilities (2026 Update)

Entrance to Kaputaş Beach is completely free of charge. The beach is operated by the local Kaş Municipality.

Services Offered:

  • Sunbed and umbrella rentals (Arriving early is highly recommended; finding one in the afternoon is almost impossible).

  • Showers, restrooms, and changing cabins.

  • A cafeteria where you can purchase snacks, cold/hot beverages, and simple fast food like toasts and hamburgers.

Tip: During the high summer season (July and August), parking becomes a significant problem. To avoid having to park dangerously along the side of the cliff road and to secure a sunbed, aim to arrive at the beach around 08:30 – 09:00 AM.

The Best Time to Visit Kaputaş

If you want to avoid the massive crowds and catch the sea at its calmest, late May, early June, or September are the best times to visit Kaputaş. While the water is completely flat in the early morning, waves usually begin to form as the afternoon winds pick up.

When planning your holiday itinerary in the region, starting your day in the refreshing waters of Kaputaş after a short drive from Kalkan will easily be one of the most unforgettable memories of your Mediterranean getaway.
